Coimbra Markets

Coimbra's markets are the beating heart of the city, where tradition remains alive and fresh produce takes center stage.

The D. Pedro V Market, one of the oldest and most iconic, is a place where the city’s inhabitants meet to buy fresh, quality produce. Here, the smells and colours of vegetables, fruits and aromatic herbs fill the air, while the vendors, many of them with decades of experience, offer their products with a smile and a touch of wisdom.

During the weekend, open-air markets and fairs are also frequent, such as the Feira do Bairro Norton de Matos (Saturday mornings), where local producers bring home-grown vegetables, as well as honey, olive oil and bread.

On the 7th and 23rd of each month there is a place for 7 and 23 Fair, in Bencanta (S. Martinho do Bispo): the market vendors start arriving at dawn, to set up a fair where a wide variety of products are sold, especially those related to agriculture, as well as tools, clothes, furniture, among others.

"Here, the smells and colors of vegetables, fruits and aromatic herbs fill the air, while the vendors, many of them with decades of experience, offer their products with a smile and a touch of wisdom."

These markets are a perfect opportunity for visitors to take a bit of local tradition with them.
